Q: What happens in a Hypnotherapy session?

A: Before your first session, we'll have a chat on the phone or by email and I'll gather a few basic details from you.

 

When you come for your session, you'll sit in a nice, comfy chair and then we have a longer chat about the issue you're dealing with and how it affects you.

 

After that, you'll be able to close your eyes and relax. I'll play some quiet music and gently talk to you until you're in a state of deep, comfortable relaxation. You'll be fully awake and in control throughout. Afterwards, you'll feel a wonderfully calm sense of inner peace and an enhanced ability to tackle your problem that increases after each session.

Q: Will I fall asleep?

A: Although you'll be very deeply relaxed, you won't fall fully asleep. You'll be in a deep, day-dreaming sort of state, where your conscious mind is taking a break, and your subconscious mind is open to helpful suggestions.

Q: Can you make me do something under hypnosis that I wouldn't normally want to do?

A: No - not at all.

It's a really good question and a very common fear - but despite what you may have seen on stage hypnosis shows, Hypnotherapy doesn't work like that at all!

 

You remain in control at all times and if you ever need to stop, you can very easily become wide awake at any point. No Hypnotherapist can hypnotise you to do something that you don't want to do - it's a totally collaborative process.

 

Q: Am I still in control of myself or are you in control of what I do/think?

A: You're in control at all times. As mentioned above, if you want to stop at any point, you'll be able to come wide awake very easily.

 

A Hypnotherapist simply uses deeply relaxing techniques to talk to your less critical subconscious mind, to access your thought patterns and deeply held beliefs. We work together to change them for more beneficial thoughts, helping you to achieve your desired outcome.
 

Q: What happens during a Reiki session?

​A: Firstly, we'll have a chat to discuss your needs and, if it's not your first session, to see how you're getting on.

 

You'll remain fully clothed (loose, comfortable clothing is best) and lie down comfortably on a massage couch. I'll play some gentle music and talk you through a short guided relaxation or visualisation.

 

During the session, I'll place my hands in various positions over your body, either lightly touching or with my hands a few inches from your body.

 

Experiences of Reiki vary from person to person and from session to session. Some of the most common experiences include: feeling heat/cold, tingling sensations, seeing colours/images, gentle pushing/pulling sensations or twitching muscles. If these sensations are experienced, they are usually very gentle and completely safe. Some people also feel a strong release of emotion - that's totally normal and nothing to worry about.

 

You may experience some, all or none of these sensations - it's not a requirement, Reiki will work regardless.

Almost everyone experiences very deep relaxation and this is by far the most common experience of Reiki.

 

After the treatment, we will have a brief chat and plan for your next session.

Q: How many sessions will I need?

A: That depends on what you're having treatment for. Many phobias can be eliminated in one session. Some issues can be addressed within 3-6 sessions. For most chronic issues I offer a six-week treatment programme - you can read about them in the individual 'Services' pages.

 

For smoking cessation, you can either opt for the Instant Quit Intensive Service - a single session of up to 2 1/2 hours - or if you prefer to gradually withdraw, therapy can take place over a few sessions.

Q: What kind of results can I expect?

A: I have a very high success rate when motivation and desire are strong. Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed, but if you are open to making some changes in your life, then you can expect great success from Hypnotherapy.
